February 22nd, 2010 • Kent: TAP Interview

Read it below or go to the Audio Perv (click here)

The Audio Perv: Do you have any updates as to when The Weekend: Saturday and The Weekend: Sunday are due out?

Kent Garrison: Yes! We are so excited about releasing the next 2 parts of The Weekend series. We are currently demoing for them as I type this and are super stoked about how the songs are turning out..we have put a ton of emotion into the next 2 parts..a lot of songs are more rock than our previous records but we also have a lot chiller more laid back songs too so were excited about putting the final product out later this year.

The Audio Perv: Who’s the main songwriter in the group or do all of you contribute in writing songs?

Kent Garrison: The way the band has been functioning lately is everyone has pretty much been writing for their instrument, like I write my key parts Kyle writes his drums, Marc his guitar, etc. Most of the vocal ideas come from Jonathan Austin and Caleb, but allsongs are usually a collaborative effort. Every song varies though.

The Audio Perv: You’re heading to the UK soon. When you’re in different countries, do you try eating different food or do you just try to eat things that you’re familiar with?

Kent Garrison: Haha! I’m actually a fan of at least trying new food, but it’s hard to say no to a McDonalds or Subway when we see one.

The Audio Perv: Will you guys be on this years Van Warped Tour? If not, will you be touring the US at all?

Kent Garrison: We haven’t heard whether or not we will be doing Warpdd but we will definitely be touring in the US regardless of what tour we are on. Summer is the best time to tour?

The Audio Perv: Who would you say that your major influences are?

Kent Garrison: It varies from bandmember to bandmember. Some of us are into super indie music, some of us listen to hip hop/pop and others are into metal..but we can all agree that the bands we grew up listening to like blink182, newfoundglory, weezer, starting line, those bands really helped pave the way for bands like us.

The Audio Perv: What’s your favorite song to cover? If you could have any band cover a FTSK song, which band would you choose and which song?

Kent Garrison: We did a Will Smith cover song for Punk Goes Crunk..we had a fun time doing the track and are stoked about possibly doing some more covers. I’d love to hear a metal or hardcore band do one of oursongs like “hey brittany” or “she’s a lady”

The Audio Perv: What’s your favorite song off to perform live off of The Weekend: Friday?

Kent Garrison: My personal favorite is She Likes (bitter sweet love). It always gets the crowd hyped up and really involved in the show.

The Audio Perv: For a young band, you’ve accomplished a lot. What would you say was your biggest challenge thus far as a band and how did you overcome it?

Kent Garrison: Our biggest challenge was putting out our first full-length album. We worked on Alma Mater for a year and were so nervous about how kids would react to thesongs . We couldn’t have been happier about how well it was recieved. We just tried to write a record that we were proud of and I think we accomplished that.

The Audio Perv: You had posted on your Myspace that you were looking to put on a bbq/picnic in the Dallas area in February. Since you most likely won’t be able to have it because of upcoming tour dates, do you still plan on having the event later in the year?

Kent Garrison: Yeah we want to have a time where we can just hang out with a lot of our fans and have a good time! We wantto do it before our next tour so be on the lookout!

The Audio Perv: You’re constantly recording new music and touring. How do you balance both and do you have plans on taking a brief break at all?

Kent Garrison: It’s really easy..when we aren’t on tour we are writing and practicing, when we are on tour we write a little less but are always trying to stay involved with our fans. While were on the road Our first priority is always performing and writing usually comes right after.
